YouTube Tuesday: Creepy Orange

Did this Sesame Street segment give anyone else the creeps as a kid? Once the flower petal eyelashes & rubber band mouth were on, I was outta there! *shivers* I'm gone!

Why would I take a picture of boxes full of rocks?

Because of what they say. Grants Pass, Oregon is a stones throw (pardon the pun) from where my family is from, where my parents, myself & a sister were born. It's home.

They were just sitting on the outskirts of the new business park where the kid's dentist office is. I actually noticed them last October. But I didn't have my camera and missed the window of opportunity before they were buried in snow for the duration of the winter. When I took the kids back this spring, I wasn't actually thinking about the bill or their little pearly whites. I was worried that they had cleaned up the boxes or that they had disintegrated over the the winter. But joy of joys, they were intact and still waiting for me. The stones that came in these boxes were used for the lower facade of the buildings. Seriously? They couldn't find enough rock around these parts they had to import Oregonian rock? Though, a very good choice, I have no objections. And darn it, I didn't take a picture of the buildings with rock on them. Oh well, another photo op!

Who knew that taking the kids to the dentist could be so great?

Matchy Matchy

While I was away in "Spencer-is-home" land, this was something else I was up to.


This is Jacqui with her cousin, Emily. They're about 6 months apart in age. I've been a skirt making machine. I completed another in different fabric for Jacqui; little butterflies and a green geometric pattern. And I've got skirts cut out for all my other girls and two ties cut out for Grant. Now just to sew them up. Cutting is half the job!

Here's a fun cousin shot. Amazing. Most everyone looks pretty pleasant!

Eye, Eye, Eye

My eyes, indeed.

The Dr. said there was a reason people don't walk into their office and request PRK laser surgery. It hurts. Big time.

The first three days are the worst and he was right. I never thought I would feel the exact orb of my eyeball burning with stabbing delight.

Yesterday was day 4 and there was amazing improvement. The world still looks blurry, like it's been smeared with vaseline, but at least I don't want to rip my eyeballs out of my head.

Today I go in to have the contact "bandages" taken off by the optometrist. I'm hoping the smeary-ness will be lessened & I can see some real improvement. Though when my vision was tested at the one day mark, I was at 20/40. Quite an improvement from 20/400.

It's still frustrating staring out at the world through a blur. And no heavy reading. Sheesh! What else am I supposed to do? I also have a DVD of the procedure. Spence said it's really cool, but I don't know if I'll ever bring myself to watch it.

Why don't they make Cliff Notes for Bahrain?

I was pretty prepared to go to Jordan. I had physically been there. I have a friend there, getting me insiders deets. I was set.

Then they pull the rug out from under me and are sending us packing to Bahrain in August. Great. A whole new country. Whoop-de-freakin'-do. Manama, Bahrain. Where is that?



See that little dot right in the center? Yep. That's Bahrain. The 34 mile long, 11 mile wide clump of sand in the Persian Gulf. It also claims the unique honor of being the ONLY island nation in the Persian Gulf & wider Middle East.

I've been giving myself these little reminders. Just to prepare myself. Whenever I check the current southeast Idaho weather, I check Bahrain's.

It's especially fun when I check the weather at 11 o'clock at night and Bahrain's temp is 81F. Fun without the sun! If by fun you mean heat. *sweating*

But I'm not bothered. The housing book says that all houses are equipped with central air.

P.S.
I think my kids have turned into wimps here in Idaho. It was almost 70F on Saturday, so I sent them outside. They all dragged themselves back inside, complaining that they were 'too hot'. Oh baby, are they in for a shock!!
